Stephen R. Murphy, CLS-F

Mr. Murphy obtained his Juris Doctorate from Western State University in 1984. In the beginning of his legal career, he was a sole practitioner handling primarily court-appointed and privately-retained criminal clientele. He subsequently became associated with a family law firm where, within four years, he received the training and experience that enabled him to become a Certified Family Law Specialist in 1994. Mr. Murphy joined our firm in 2013 and became a partner in Beatrice L. Snider Family Law Group, LLP, in 2016.

In addition to his strong understanding and experience in all aspects of family law, Mr. Murphy’s significant criminal law background provides special insight into the nuances and complexities of domestic violence litigation. He is a skilled negotiator with a primary focus on resolution rather than litigation and is available to serve as a neutral mediator in divorce and other family law matters. In that role, he helps both parties work through disputed issues and explore practical solutions without representing either side.

Mr. Murphy also represents clients in private mediation conducted by third-party mediators, helping them prepare for the process, evaluate proposed settlement terms, and protect their interests. When settlement is not possible, he is experienced in handling complex family law litigation involving custody, visitation, business interests, property division, support, and other contested family law issues.
